Cowgirl Cameron’s Hoedown for MND Scotland

9th Jul 2024

Cllr Lorraine Cameron, Provost of Renfrewshire – aka “Lorri-belle Cam-Cam” is getting into training for the Country Hoedown at Barnhill Farm, Houston Road, Inchinnan, Renfrewshire on Saturday 17 August and it is all for a good cause – MND Scotland – a charity that supports people with motor neuron disease (MND) and funds research to find a cure.

Lorraine, or should that be ‘Cowgirl Cameron’ says: “I am delighted to invite you to join me for a Scottish themed hoedown which will be held on Saturday, 17th August 2024, at Barnhill Farm in Inchinnan, in aid of my chosen charity which this year is MND Scotland.”

Lorraine continues: “MND Scotland is a fantastic charity who not only provide incredible support to people who have motor neuron disease and their families, but who are working towards finding meaningful new treatments for this devastating life limiting illness, there currently is no cure for MND.  It is particularly close to my heart as many of you may know I lost my own Mum to this awful disease in June 2011 and so know firsthand not only the emotional impact of caring for a loved one with this disease, but also the incredible work MND Scotland did to help us through diagnosis and beyond.”

So how can you help this charity, well it’s simple, buy a ticket and come have the best time y’all!

Tickets are available to purchase via Eventbrite and are priced at £60.

It includes some good ole comfort hoedown fair.  Our very own Calamity Carol will be on hand to teach us some line dancing, and I’m delighted to say we’ll also have world renowned ceilidh rock band ‘Bahookie’ join us too – what better way to dust off those cowboy boots!

Not only that but this event is a ‘bring your own bottle’ so no extra pricey add-on’s on the night. We’ll have you grinnin’ like a possum eatin’ a sweet tater in no time!

There will of course be further opportunities to support the charity on the night, and a chance to take on the mighty rodeo bull (Big bucko!) we’ll even have prizes for the best dressed cowboy/cowgirl too.

Our good friend, Gina McKie, the best dressed wrangler in the West, will act as compére on the night too, it will be a rootin tootin rare terr!

I would love to see you, and perhaps you would consider donating a prize for our sharp shootin’ booth, or cactus toss, if you can help in this way we would be delighted to hear from you.

If you are not able to attend the event, but would still like to support MND Scotland, don’t worry you can simply send a donation, which will go towards items on the enclosed MND Scotland wishlist.  Just get in touch with us and we’ll tell you how you can get involved.  Anything you can give, even by way of a donation towards an item, is exceptionally important to those living with, and caring for someone with this life limiting disease.”

Lorraine concludes: “I cannot wait for this fantastic evening to enjoy a night of great food, company and entertainment and I hope to see you there too. To purchase tickets, you just need to simply send an email to: civicevents@renfrewshire.gov.uk  and we’ll take it from there.
