An Erskine Veteran, Bill.

Every year, Erskine supports around 1,000 Veterans and their families, many of whom listening to the radio is part of their everyday routine. As well as offering companionship, it’s a great way to feel connected.

Within Erskine, music plays a large part in the day-to-day life of residents. It has been proven to have a transformational effect on people living with dementia, and the power of music is an essential part of caring for many of the Veterans in the charity’s care.

Thanks to Quality Radio, Erskine listeners will have the opportunity to request music from a large catalogue of songs from Quality Radio’s massive music library, two dedicated Erskine shows weekly, guest interviews and live broadcast shows throughout the year. This format is aimed at making veterans feel more connected with the outside world and giving Erskine supporters the chance to tune in and stay up-to-date with the charity’s news.

Presenter of the twice weekly shows, broadcast on Tuesdays at 12 noon and Saturdays at 2.00pm is Graham Turnbull.  Graham commented: “I look forward every week to the opportunity to bring the requests of favourite music to Erskine listeners and to keeping everyone up to date on all the great things that are happening at Erskine’s four homes”.

Erskine Deputy Head of Communications Gordon Stevenson said: “Based on the wholly positive feedback from our entry into the world of radio, we realised that we needed to expand our reach of Erskine Veterans Radio onto DAB digital radio. Partnering with another local charity Quality Radio, allows us to do this, while really engaging at a deeper level with the local community and our many supporters – across Renfrewshire and beyond”

Erskine is a family. Our strength lies in the very special blend of dedicated care, compassion and understanding we offer to our residents and their families.  When Erskine was founded in 1916, our aim was to care for Service men and women who had been injured in active service.

Today, care remains the cornerstone of our philosophy.  We not only care for our Veterans – we care about them.

As Scotland’s foremost provider of care for veterans and their spouses, Erskine provides unrivalled nursing, residential and dementia care in four homes throughout Scotland in Bishopton, Glasgow and Edinburgh. We also assist younger veterans who need help to begin the next chapter of their lives, offering social, recreation and training facilities at our Activity Centre and employment opportunities in partnership with Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company based in the Erskine campus.

On our Veterans Village in Bishopton we have 44 cottages for Veterans and their families as well as five Assisted Living Apartments and 24 Transitional Supported Accommodation Apartments – supporting Veterans of all ages.

As a charity, we rely on the generosity of our supporters to maintain our commitment to care for Scotland’s Veterans – without donations we simply cannot continue this work.  If and when the time is right, please remember Erskine in your will or visit https://www.erskine.org.uk/legacies to find out more.
