Quality Radio – Radio Academy
The Paisley FM Radio Academy was launched in June 2019 to provide Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) courses in Radio Broadcasting for pupils in schools across Renfrewshire. The academy is now called the Quality Radio Academy since the name change from Paisley FM to Quality Radio in September 2022.
Pictured in studio 1 of Quality Radio 107.5 are Norman Ross, director and Education Liaison officer of Quality Radio and launch sponsors, Johnstone TOA Taxi company director Deborah Anderson and Johnstone TOA office manager Frances Donnachie.
The first course will be for 48 pupils attending Paisley Grammar School where Quality Radio is based.
This course is a SCQF level 5 Media Unit to enable them to develop the skills and techniques to allow them to make speech-based radio programmes. SCQF – the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework is the national credit transfer system for all levels of qualifications in Scotland.
Candidates will have the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of the digital equipment used in professional standard radio productions. Successful candidates will receive 6 SCQF credit points at SCQF level 5.
Quality Radio director and Quality Radio Radio Academy and Education Liaison Officer Norman Ross commented: “Quality Radio would like to acknowledge the sponsorship of this facility for the youngsters of Renfrewshire by Johnstone TOA Taxi company.”
Norman added: “These are exciting developments with our partners in education and support from the business community to enable young people to develop knowledge and transferable skills at the Quality Radio studios.”
After they visited the Quality Radio studio recently, Frances Donnachie of Johnstone TOA commented: “I felt really inspired to what the team at Quality Radio are doing for Renfrewshire young people and we were keen to support these efforts through sponsorship to make it happen.”
