Paisley Live Music Gig Guide

If you love Prog Rock you need to get to The Bungalow tonight, Friday 7 June to see Outside The Original.

They are an exciting new project from James Finnigan of Hue and Cry and Stiltskin fame. I saw them the last time they played, and they are amazing This 6-piece band faithfully reproduce timeless masterpieces from the giants of progressive rock, performing a selection of classics by Emerson Lake and Palmer, Genesis, King Crimson, Yes, Pink Floyd, and more. Tickets on the door from 7.00pm.

The band with the loudest brass section in the world, The Brass Monkeys are back at The Bungalow tomorrow afternoon, Saturday 8 June. This is a big band with a twist from Glasgow, featuring Lesley Ward on vocals with occasional vocal cameos. Free entry and doors are 1.00pm.

The Odels all the way from the Northeast of England and after a blistering set at March of the Mods are on tomorrow night, Saturday 8 June. They bring Soul, Northern Soul and Motown to the stage and are one of the most entertaining bands around. In support is local band Bits and Pieces. Tickets on the door from 7.00pm.

The Tuesday Jam Open Stage starts at 7.00pm. The Jam House Band will be there to entertain the crowd, and they will be there to help any performers who want a bit of back-up. All backline and drumkit provided just bring your instruments. The Bungalow Club starts at 2.00pm on Wednesday 12 June. This an opportunity to pop in and enjoy an afternoon with John Griffin, the singer from The Bobby Deans Big Band, a quiz and an open stage jam.

Bimonthly event Pai-Slay Drag is on Wednesday 12 June, and the line-up is October Fist, Klitsune and special guests. Doors are 7.00pm. The Bungalow Introducing night on Thursday 13 June, features The Straw Dogs 1980, Hicks and Hex, Tickets on the door from 7.00pm.

The first and longest international tribute to the Cure, Easycure who got together in 1996, is at The Venue tonight, Friday 7 June. Support act is still to be announced. Tickets on the door from 7.00pm. There is also another top tribute for you on Sunday. Cookie, the No1 Green day tribute hailing from the South of England will be at The Venue on Sunday afternoon 9 June. Tickets on the door from 12noon.

Stevie D will be playing at The Keg tonight, Friday 7 June from 9.00pm and tomorrow night, Saturday 8 June, also starting at 9.00pm is Rock Therapy.

The Keg Sessions are kicking off at 9.00pm on Thursdays for more original bands and artists.

Tomorrow, Saturday 8 June, The Cave have Screaming Velvet playing from 5.00pm and they are followed by Splendid Suns at 8.00pm. On Sunday, 9 June, Blackout will be on stage from 6.00pm.

The Old Swan have another cracking week of live music for you, and it starts tonight, Friday 7 June with The 79’s from 8.00pm. Tomorrow afternoon, Saturday 8 June at 4.00pm it is Gordon’s Alive.  Soul Sunday starts at 4.00pm and Lee James’s music and comedy is on Tuesday 11 June and Thursday 13 June from 3.00pm.  Crawford Carlyle will be playing on Monday 10 June at 4.00pm and Duncan McLellan is playing on Wednesday from 4.00pm followed by the Wild Wild Wednesday Country Night at 8.00pm.

Sunday live action is at Kennedys from 3.00pm and Ragamuffin kicks off at 4.30pm at The Inn on the Corner.

Open Mic/Stage Sessions next week are: The Abbey at 9pm on Monday; Ugly Duck Monday at 7pm; The Gantry at 9pm on Tuesday; The Bungalow on Tuesday 7pm; The Keg on Wednesday at 8.30pm and The Cave from 9pm on Thursday.

Finally, I am going to the Abbey to see a Hans Zimmer night of movie magic with a full-blown orchestra tomorrow, Saturday 8 June. I didn’t know this until recently that Hans Zimmer was in The Buggles and yes, the guys who wrote Video Killed the Radio Star.
