The Bungalow has the very talented tribute band Ocean Colour Scheme (pictured) on tonight, Friday 16 August.
The band are of course a tribute to Ocean Colour Scene who have notched up nine albums, three of which went Top 5 – 1996’s Moseley Shoals, 1997’s Marchin’ Already and 1999’s One From The Modern – and a run of nine successive Top 20 hit singles commencing with 1996’s The Riverboat Song. They supported Oasis at their massive Knebworth shows that same year, and two years later helmed the biggest arena tour of any UK band to date. Their achievements have been nothing short of phenomenal. This is a night to singalong to Drive Away, You Got It Bad, Riverboat Song and Robin Hood. Tickets will be on the door from 7.00pm.
Bobby Deans Big Band are back on Saturday 17 August in the afternoon for more jazz, swing and big band classics. Free entry from 1.00pm.
The Who tribute band Substitutes are playing Friday night, 16 August, with support. Tickets are on the door from 7.00pm and the first band starts at 7.45pm.
LNP Promotions have put on two nights with The Bluebells at The Bungalow. The Friday night is sold out, but there are still some tickets for the Thursday 22 August show next week. This is a full 6-piece band show with Ken McCluskey, David McCluskey and Bobby Bluebell, along with Campbell Owens on Bass, Mick Slaven on lead guitar and Douglas MacIntyre on acoustic guitar.
Initially, the Bluebells enjoyed a whirlwind career spanning the early 1980’s with a recording output including three U.K. hit singles. “I’m Falling”, “Cath” and “Young at Heart”. Robert Hodgens (aka Bobby Bluebell) wrote instantly memorable classics in collaboration with the two McCluskey brothers who completed the Bluebells’ essential troika and Kenneth McCluskey sang them in a likably unaffected voice, making every track count. In 1993 when “Young at Heart” hit the U.K. No 1 spot following its use as a TV advert for Volkswagen. Doors at 7.00pm.
Rock and Mayhem present a bill full of young up and coming talent on Wednesday 21 August. The line-up includes Beach Feak, Everyday Pharaohs, Gambit and Zoned Out. Tickets are on the door from 7.00pm and get in early as the first band kicks off at 7.15pm.
St Mungo is at The Keg tonight and tomorrow 16-17 August. It is The Brian Kelly Band banging out more electric guitar riffs, slapping bass and energetic drum fills. This trio is well worth a listen. Thursday Keg Session kicks off at 9.00pm for up-and-coming original talent.
The Cave has a fantastic night of all your favourite 70s music by the Glam Rock Tribute act Blockbustarz. The band features former members of The Glitter Band and well-established Scottish tribute and covers bands. Blockbustarz aims to recreate the sound and the look of the original artists, bringing you the absolute best tribute to the 1970s Glam Rock era. Get your fill of T Rex, The Sweet. Tickets are still available for only £10 from the bar. The show starts at 8.30pm. Get in early if you want a seat. Tomorrow night, Saturday 17 August, is Canyon from 5.00pm followed by Kong at 8.00pm. Jim Keilt’s Blues Jam starts at 6.00pm on Sunday.
The Old Swan tonight, Friday 16 August, The Signs will be on stage from 8.00pm. Moonshine Mojo are in ‘The Shopper’s Slot’ tomorrow, Saturday 17 August from 4.00pm. Sunday Soul Club kicks off the dancing from 4.00pm. On Monday and Wednesday the solo sessions start at 4.00pm and on Tuesday and Thursday from 4.00pm it is the very funny and talented Lee James.
There will be live music at Kennedys on Sunday 18 August from 3.00pm and at 4.30pm. The Inn on the Corner will have Ragamuffin on.
Open Mic/Stage Sessions next week are: The Abbey at 9pm on Monday; Ugly Duck Monday at 7pm; The Gantry at 9pm on Tuesday; The Bungalow on Tuesday 7pm; The Keg on Wednesday at 8.30pm and The Cave from 9.00pm on Thursday. The Inn on the Corner has an Open Mic on the last Tuesday of the month.
