Nick Harper is playing at The Bungalow on Friday night, 2 August. Nick is the son of Roy Harper, an English singer songwriter who has had tributes from the likes of Led Zeppelin, Kate Bush, Pink Floyd’s Dave Gilmour and many more. It’s a lot to keep up with having a well-known father, but Nick is a top-class musician in his own right. Here is what Mojo Magazine said about him:
“One of the finest guitarists of his generation, his soaring vocal range and propensity for epic song place him somewhere between Rufus Wainright and Jeff Buckley.” Tickets on the door from 7.00pm.
The Fab Silver Maxwell Beatles return to The Bungalow for a Free Saturday afternoon show on Saturday 3 August. Doors are at 1.00pm and get in early if you want a seat.
Saturday night, the very popular M65’s will be pounding out some cool Mod and Northern Soul classics perfect for the dancers among us. They are sure to do another blistering set just like their outstanding gig recently in May. Its free entry again and the support is El Galvarino. Doors are 7.00pm.
The Tuesday Jam Open Stage starts at 7.00pm. The Jam House Band will be there to entertain and help any performers. All backline and drum are provided just bring your instruments.
Goblin Mode Promotions have put together a fantastic line up of punk bands for Wednesday night. The Kimberley Steaks, Low Level Monk, Bad Year and Exotic Animals, yes, four bands, for the entry fee. In troubling times as they are and prices are going up, that’s not bad in my book. Tickets on the door from 7.00pm.
The Rezillos played the old Bungalow decades ago, and it’s great to see them head to the present Bungalow on Thursday 8 August. The Rezillos were viewed as a punk act simply because they emerged at that time in the history of rock. But there is so much more to The Rezillos and their music. Tickets on the door from 7.00pm.
The Keg have Smalltown Sound in tonight, Friday 2 August, but there is nothing small about their sound. For a duo, they make bit of noise, and their set is full of great songs to sing along to or dance or if you are like me, just sit and enjoy the music. The action starts at 9.00pm and on Saturday night at the same time is Glasgow band Nova Baby. On Thursday 8 August, The Keg Sessions starts at 9.00pm. This is an ideal night to see what original music is about. Who knows, you might see the next big band as they all must start somewhere.
Underwood Lane are at The Cave on Saturday night, 3 August from 8.00pm. And on Sunday from 6.00pm, P90’s will be hitting the stage. Jen Sloan of The Cave told me: “We have not seen these guys for a while. Can’t wait to welcome them back”.
The Old Swan have Gypsy in on Friday night, 2 August from 8.00pm and on Saturday 3 August from 4.00pm it will be Smalltown Sound. Sunday Soul Club starts at 4.00pm, the Monday and Wednesday acoustic sessions starts at 4.00pm, and Lee James will be in his usual slots of Tuesday and Thursday at 3.00pm.
Paisley’s legendary rock band Blind Panik will be playing at Kennedy’s on Sunday 4 August from 3.00pm. It’s been a while as they have been playing out of town, but John Caldwell of the band says: “I’m looking forward to a home game”. Rockabilly sensation The Best Bad Influence are at The Inn on the Corner on Sunday 4 August from 4.30pm. If you haven’t seen these guys, take a trip in to catch them and remember your dancing shoes.
Open Mic/Stage Sessions next week are: The Abbey at 9pm on Monday, Ugly Duck Monday at 7pm, The Gantry at 9pm on Tuesday, The Bungalow on Tuesday 7pm, The Keg on Wednesday at 8.30pm and The Cave from 9pm on Thursday. The Inn on the Corner have an Open Mic on the last Tuesday of the month.
