Shopmobility Renfrewshire on the Euan’s Guide Access Survey

9th Apr 2025

“The latest Euan’s Guide Access Survey really highlights the difficulties that people with disabilities, including mobility disabilities face every day”, said Karen Miller, Office Manager and Funding Officer of Shopmobility Renfrewshire based Paisley.

The 2024 Euan’s Guide Access Survey has made one thing clear: a lack of access information is shutting disabled people out of everyday life. Finding reliable details about accessibility shouldn’t be a challenge in 2025, but for too many, it still is. Euan’s Guide is calling on the public, businesses, policymakers, and local authorities to take immediate steps to improve disabled access information. Disabled people deserve better access — and they need it now.

Shopmobility Renfrewshire would encourage all public and private services to have a look at the latest Euan’s Guide and see if they can make the changes necessary to help people with disabilities access their services.

Karen Miller added: “Over 6,660 responded to the survey published in this year’s Euan’s Guide, giving an extensive overview of the difficulties people with disabilities face. More needs to be done to tackle the issues raised, to help tackle the social isolation that many disabled people face as they feel that they are unable to participate in the economic, social and cultural affairs in their local area.

“70% of respondents said the lack of disabled access has directly affected their goals, plans or aspirations, and 78% are not confident about visiting new places when thinking about accessibility.  This results in many people with disabilities not going out and feeling more isolated than ever.

“Shopmobility Renfrewshire holds and supports others who hold social inclusion events which are accessible to all.  It is a key requirement that any event must be held in a venue that has been adapted to allow people with disabilities – such as those in wheelchairs or need the use of a mobility scooter – to full participate.

“We also provide advocacy for people with mobility disabilities, ensuring that their voice is heard whenever decisions are made that can have an impact on them.  We have worked closely with Renfrewshire Council’s Roads Team to provide accessibility surveys to help determine where dropped kerbs should b installed.”
