Book Week Scotland is an annual celebration of books and reading that takes place across the country. Book Week Scotland 2024 will take place on 18–24 November, supported by Creative Scotland and SLIC.
“As part of Book Week Scotland 2024 (running from 18-24 November), Shopmobility Renfrewshire will be handing out free copies of the free Book Week Scotland book to everyone who hires a mobility scooter or wheelchair from us*” says Renfrewshire Councillor Kenny MacLaren, Chairperson of Shopmobility Renfrewshire.
This year’s activities build on our original objectives for Book Week Scotland:
- To raise public awareness of and celebrate the pleasures of reading.
- To work in partnership with libraries in every local authority in Scotland.
- To promote Scottish writing and writers.
- To convert participation in Book Week Scotland to increased and/or sustained engagement in reading activity.
Every year, people are asked to share stories as part of our ‘Scotland’s Stories’ campaign and all the stories are featured on the Book Week Scotland website, with a some of them making it into an annual free book for Book Week Scotland. This year’s theme is Hope.
Councillor Kenny MacLaren added: “Over the past few years I’ve ordered a supply of the free book celebrating Book Week Scotland and distribute it amongst local groups. This year I’ve dropped off a supply of these books with Shopmobility Renfrewshire to let them share this free book with their customers.
Karen Miller, Shopmobility Renfrewshire’s Office Manager, said: “We are grateful to Cllr Kenny MacLaren for giving us his supply of books and we will be handing out a copy to everyone who hires a wheelchair or mobility scooter with us – until we run out of books.
“Book Week Scotland is a great idea for encouraging people to read more and this year’s free book is excellent and contains some great stories.”
