Hopefully the name the Southmartins is self-explanatory but, in short, they are a tribute to the songs of The Beautiful South and The Housemartins (with occasional forays into Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott’s other work).
The band have played Paul Heaton’s pub – the Kings Arms on numerous occasions. With an unbeatable songbook to draw upon including solid-bronze classics such as Happy Hour, Caravan of Love, Perfect 10, Don’t Marry Her, You Keep It All In and many more. Their live shows frequently sell-out in advance and garner rave reviews from customers expecting something, perhaps, a little more “traditional”.
They are not trying to imitate or resurrect anything, and they don’t do all that dressing up stuff, but what they do have is a healthy irreverence for the songs. Sometimes the songs are played like the records and other times they are taken somewhere else but all in the name of putting on a good show and putting a smile on the audience’s face. Tickets on the door from 7.00pm.
On Sunday, Horse kicks off the second weekend of the ‘Month of Sundays’ series. She says “I’m delighted to join LNP’s Month of Sundays series in May at The Bungalow. It is a matinee show and probably one of the only times I’ve done one of these. I’m really, really looking forward to it” Hopefully you have a ticket as it is sold out. Doors are 1.00pm.
Later, the ‘Month of Sundays’ evening show is The Laurettes, a fiery 5-piece all-female Scottish band turning heads with their powerful fusion of Indie Folk and Celtic Rock. Regular performers at New York Tartan Week, The Laurettes bring their infectious spirit and Scottish flair to The Bungalow, so expect roaring chants to their feel-good anthems and crowd-loving charm make them one of the UK’s most exciting emerging live acts. Tickets on the door from 7.00pm.
