Johnstone Burgh welcome Albion Rovers to Keanie Park, Johnstone this Saturday, 8 August with a 3.00pm kick-off in what will be the first ever meeting between the two clubs.
The Coatbridge side was formed in 1882 and joined the Scottish Football League in 1903. For 120 years “The Wee Rovers” maintained their league membership until they were relegated from League Two in 2023. The club finished 13th in the Scottish Lowland League last season.
Albion Rovers made a disappointing start to the new Lowland League West season. An opening day 1-0 defeat away to Cumnock Juniors at Townhead Park, followed by a 2-0 home defeat to Largs Thistle at the Reigart Stadium last Saturday. Manager Steven Saunders will be hoping his team’s fortune’s change this weekend at Keanie Park.
Johnstone Burgh are coming into this match with plenty of confidence after their first two matches of the Lowland League West season.
Mark Durnan and Aaron Mason scored the goals in the opening day match which resulted in a 2-0 win over Troon FC at Keanie Park last Wednesday evening.
The Burgh then secured a heroic point, having gone down to 10 men, late in the game with a 1-1 draw against a very good Celtic FC B side at The Albert Bartlett Stadium in Airdrie last Saturday afternoon, thanks to a fantastic equalising goal from Stuart Faulds. Burgh manager Stevie Farrell will be confident of a second consecutive home win of the season on Saturday.
Aaron Mason will be missing from the Johnstone Burgh squad this Saturday through suspension, as will Cammy Eadie who is still recovering from a long term injury.
