Paisley Pirates and Whitley Warriors Fans Show unity off the ice as Pirates deliver emotional win in memory of former coach Hector Adam

8th Dec 2025

The Paisley Pirates have experienced a powerful week both on and off the ice — one marked by sportsmanship, generosity and the loss of a deeply respected member of the club’s family.

COMMUNITY RESPONSE TO THEFT OF DANIEL McGOWAN’S EQUIPMENT

Following the theft of two goalie sticks belonging to Pirates netminder Daniel McGowan (pictured) during the away fixture against Whitley Warriors on 30 November 2025, the hockey community responded in a way that showcased the very best of the sport.

Upon learning that Warriors fans had begun raising funds to replace his equipment, Daniel released the following message: “I’ve recently heard about your efforts to raise money to replace my stick, and I just want to say a heartfelt thank you. It’s incredibly kind of you, and I truly appreciate the thought behind it. When you …… a poor situation. Please don’t take this as me refusing your kindness, it’s very much appreciated. I just feel better knowing the gesture helps others who really need it. Kind regards, Daniel McGowan #39”

In support of Daniel’s request, the Paisley Pirates have committed to matching the funds raised so far, ensuring the eventual charity donation makes an even greater impact.

Club Statement: “On behalf of everyone at our club, we want to echo Daniel’s gratitude. The effort Whitley fans have gone to speaks volumes about the true spirit of the Warriors community. We hope this turns an unfortunate moment into something genuinely positive and highlights the respect both clubs and fanbases have for one another. Competitive on the ice, united off it.”

PIRATES PAY TRIBUTE TO FORMER COACH HECTOR ADAM

Sunday night’s home fixture began with a one-minute applause to honour Hector Adam, known affectionately as Harry or Heccy, a beloved member of the Pirates family who sadly passed away earlier this week.

A former ice hockey coach, Hector helped shape generations of Paisley players, including current Pirates Chris Turley, Chris Wilson, and Head Coach Ian Turley, all of whom benefited from his guidance as youngsters discovering the sport. His loss has been deeply felt across the wider hockey community.

His daughter has kindly shared that the Pirates family — fans and players alike — will be welcome at his funeral, where he will make his final journey wearing his Pirates top. The club is honoured by this gesture and extends its heartfelt condolences.

MATCH REPORT: Paisley Pirates  3 Dundee Rockets  2

The Pirates delivered a determined and emotionally charged performance, securing a 3–2 win against the Dundee Rockets.

Paisley opened the scoring through Aiden Wilson, who calmly converted a penalty shot to give the home side early momentum. Goals from Garry Simpson and Mikey Dobson followed, with the team battling through a competitive, physical contest to secure another valuable two points.

In goal, Man of the Match Daniel McGowan produced a standout performance — sharp, composed and crucial in the closing stages.

At the final buzzer, the Pirates dedicated the result to Hector: “Hector, we hope you were watching up there — this one’s for you.”
