The Paisley Pirates secured their place in the Scottish National League Play-Off Semi Finals with a composed and professional two-leg victory over the Kirkcaldy Kestrels across the weekend of 4–5 April 2026.
Heading into the tie, the Pirates knew they would be facing a determined Kestrels side, with little margin for error across the two games. However, a disciplined defensive performance and clinical finishing ultimately proved the difference over the course of the weekend.
The first leg saw Paisley take control on home ice with a 2–0 victory, setting the tone for the tie. Forward Marty Simpson (pictured), was the standout performer, netting both goals in a confident display that underlined his recent form. His ability to capitalise on key moments, combined with a structured team effort across all three zones, ensured the Pirates carried a valuable two-goal advantage into the second leg. Simpson’s impact did not go unnoticed, as he was deservedly named Man of the Match.
With the job only half done, the Pirates travelled to Fife the following evening fully aware of the challenge that awaited. The Kestrels responded with intensity, pushing hard to claw their way back into the tie, but Paisley showed resilience and composure under pressure. Goals from Fraser Kerr and Ryan Parkin proved crucial in maintaining control of the aggregate scoreline, with the game finishing 2–2 on the night.
That result secured a 4–2 aggregate victory for the Pirates, confirming their progression to the semi-finals and capping off a strong all-round team performance across the weekend. Once again, Marty Simpson was recognised as Man of the Match, making it back-to-back honours and highlighting his influence on the tie.
The Pirates now shift their focus to the Play-Off Final Weekend at Dundee Ice Arena on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th April. They will face the Edinburgh Capitals in the semi-final at 2:00pm on Saturday, with a place in Sunday’s final at stake.
The weekend promises to be a celebration of Scottish ice hockey, with a full schedule of fixtures and events alongside the SNL Play-Off action. Supporters attending can also enjoy an Under 16 Girls Showcase on Sunday afternoon, followed by the Play-Off Final and the Recreational Knock Out Cup Final later that evening. Importantly, tickets provide access to all games across the day, offering excellent value and a full day of hockey entertainment.
With confidence building at the right time and momentum firmly on their side, the Pirates head into the semi-finals determined to continue their push for silverware. Supporters are encouraged to make the trip to Dundee and get behind the team for what promises to be a defining weekend in the season.
