Kirkcaldy Kestrels 4–0 Paisley Pirates
Paisley Pirates got their first taste of competitive action ahead of the 2026/27 season on Sunday evening, 30 August 2026, falling to a 4–0 preseason defeat against Kirkcaldy Kestrels at Fife Ice Arena.
While the final scoreline was a disappointing one for the Pirates, the fixture served its purpose as an important first opportunity for the squad to get back on the ice together ahead of the new campaign.
Pre-season hockey is about far more than the result, with the coaching team using the evening to experiment with different lines, give the entire squad valuable game time and begin assessing combinations ahead of the competitive season.
Every available player was given time on the ice, including members of the Pirates’ Under-19 setup, while both netminders shared the workload with half a game each.
With a number of new faces joining the squad this summer, the game also provided an important opportunity for the group to begin developing chemistry in a match environment.
Despite the scoreline, there were plenty of positives for Paisley to take away from the evening, along with areas the team can now work on and refine as preparations continue.
One of the standout performances came from new signing Mylo Wylie, who was named the Pirates’ Man of the Match following an impressive first appearance in a Paisley jersey.
The young forward caught the eye throughout the evening and gave supporters an early glimpse of what he can bring to the squad during the club’s 80th anniversary season.
Head Coach Ian Turley said: “Naturally, nobody likes losing 4–0, but this is exactly what pre-season games are there for. It gave us the opportunity to get every player on the ice, try different lines and combinations, and make sure the mention has to go to Mylo Wylie for his Man of the Match award. He certainly impressed in his first game wearing a Pirates jersey and showed exactly why we’re so pleased to have him as part of this squad.”
The Pirates would also like to thank every supporter who made the journey through to Kirkcaldy to back the team.
