I’m a music devotee, it’s food for my soul.
I was brought up in a house filled with music, the radio was a constant and my parents’ records soundtrack my childhood memories and has influenced my taste.
The first records to grace my tiny turntable were the Best of Blondie and The Krankies… both were huge in their own unique way when I was a kid! In 1987 I bought both Mel & Kim’s FLM and Fleetwood Mac’s Tango In The Night albums, I loved both equally (and still do).
In the early 90s I was listening to pop, dance/rave as well as a bit of rock and indie, but it was Oasis’s debut album Definitely Maybe that had the biggest impact on me. As a 17 year old it felt like it was written for my generation yet its nods to David Bowie, Slade, The Beatles etc meant my parents didn’t hate it and I got away with playing it on the family stereo. Oasis at Knebworth in 1996 was my first ever gig and it sparked a passion for live music and make an effort to get to as many as I can.
I enjoy performing music, too. I’ve sang in choirs since my schooldays and have been known to get on the karaoke. There’s nothing more terrifying and exhilarating than performing in front of an audience.
Books have also been a lifelong love and I’m a bit of a history nerd. I’ve recently found a love of fitness and weight training, my current goal is to be able to carry the equivalent of my body weight. Music definitely helps give me energy and power me through my sessions.
