How did you get into broadcasting?

I took my first steps onto the airwaves a long time ago at a Hospital Radio Station in Paisley, I took time out to pursue a career working in nightclubs. I returned to the Airwaves about 25yrs ago after a chance encounter with a colleague.

Random encounter with any celebrity?

I once encountered a well known (up and coming young – at the time) musician called Marti I while was working in a nightclub in Glasgow. He turned up at the DJ box and handed me his ‘white label” he even wrote the name on it for me so I wouldn’t forget. We chatted for a while as he asked me to play it, Im sorry to say I didn’t play it BUT I was kicking myself a few months later when Wet Wet Wet became the biggest thing since sliced bread, and the white label with the handwritten label by Marti Pellow was called ’Sweet Little Mystery’.

Music preferences?

My musical taste is very upbeat, preferring classic old skool, uplifting Trance, commercial and progressive Dance. Im not a great fan of RnB or Soul music. My favourite tracks are ‘Airwave’ by Rank One and Nalin and Kane ‘Beachball’ and my favourite artists include Paul Van Dyk.

Any surprising facts your listeners may not know about you?

I worked as a club jock for 30yrs in nightclubs around Scotland, The first nightclub I ever worked in was in Paisley, it was called ‘Valentinos’ then I moved to other clubs in Paisley – the Toledo Junction’ and ‘The Garage’. Years later I came back and worked in ‘Carnegies’ and ‘Viennas’ in Paisley. I was resident DJ in ‘Bonkers Showbar’ in Glasgow for many years, and I was the Saturday night resident in the Round Room in ‘Archaos’ and ‘Destiny Nightclub’ also in Glasgow. I worked in ‘Fouquets’ and ‘Cafe Cini’ and many other nightclubs as far afield as Ayr, Cumbernauld, Balloch, Clydebank and Dumbarton. A lot of these places are gone now, but their music lives on.
