| Staff and pupils at St Charles’ Primary School and Early Learning and Childcare Class are delighted with the positive grade. They were inspected by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) in Scotland earlier this year.
The school got a Very Good grade for wellbeing, equality and inclusion. The team also received four Good grades from inspectors. The report said children are friendly and welcoming. They show kindness towards one another, staff and visitors. Staff and children have strong, trusting relationships. This has created a positive ethos across all stages. Children have pride in their school and nursery. They engage in their learning with enthusiasm. Nursery children develop a wide range of skills through forest kindergarten. They learn through play together to explore the natural world. Throughout the school and nursery, staff and children have opportunities to showcase leadership. They contribute to ongoing improvements within the school and nursery.
Staff work as a team throughout the school. There is a collaborative approach to wellbeing which supports children. They feel cared for, valued and confident, and learn in a nurturing environment. Children have many opportunities to succeed, with support from staff. The school also have good links with the community and partners. Head Teacher Grace Hannigan said: “Wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do here at St Charles’ Primary School. We believe children learn and develop best in a positive and supportive learning environment where they feel valued and loved. We are delighted HMIE inspectors recognised our commitment to wellbeing, equality and inclusion. “Our wonderful children show enthusiasm and kindness every day. Positive relationships between children, families and staff are the cornerstone of our school community. “We will continue to build on our strengths to ensure every child can thrive and succeed.”
Councillor Emma Rodden, Education Convener for Renfrewshire Council, praised the report. She said: “Wellbeing is at the heart of what St Charles’ Primary School and Early Learning and Childcare Class do. I’m pleased the positive, nurturing ethos has been recognised by inspectors. When children feel cared for, they develop confidence and are eager to learn. “The strong relationships between pupils and staff further help children to thrive. This is strengthened through leadership opportunities and learning beyond the classroom. Together, staff have created a welcoming and supportive learning environment for all.” Janie O’Neill, Director of Children’s Services, said: “This is a very positive report for St Charles’ Primary School and Early Learning and Childcare Class. It reflects the dedication of staff in creating a nurturing, inclusive environment where children feel valued and supported to achieve their potential. “I am particularly pleased to see the recognition of strong relationships, leadership opportunities and the focus on wellbeing, which are key to helping every child thrive.
