Johnstone Burgh will welcome Newton Stewart FC to Keanie Park this Saturday (22nd August), in what will be the first ever meeting between the two clubs, as was the case when we played Celtic ‘B’ and Albion Rovers in early August.
Newton Stewart FC were formed in 1880. The club play their home matches at the 1,500 capacity Blairmount Park on a 4G all weather surface, in the town of Newton Stewart in the Dumfries and Galloway area, a 76 mile drive from our very own Keanie Park.
“The Creesiders” have won The South of Scotland League on three occasions. In the 25/26 season Newton Stewart finished in 4th place to secure promotion to the new Scottish Lowland League West.
It’s been a difficult start for the club in their new adventure in the Scottish Lowland League West, with just one point taken from their opening four matches. Newton Stewart started their campaign off with three defeats to Clydebank (4-2), Gretna 2008 (3-0) and Auchinleck Talbot (9-0). However in their most recent match “The Creesiders” managed a very credible 2-2 draw with league leaders Pollok at Blairmount Park last Saturday, 15th August. Manager Jamie Adams will feel a lot more confident about his team’s chances at Keanie Park on Saturday.
Johnstone Burgh’s start to their new Scottish Lowland League West campaign has been positive, with five points taken from the first four matches.
A fine opening day win over Troon (2-0), followed by two respectable draws against Celtic B (1-1) and Albion Rovers (2-2), ensured a fine start.
Things didn’t go the Burgh’s way on Wednesday 19th August,
as we fell to a 3-1 defeat to league leaders Pollok at Newlandsfield Park. However Burgh Manager Stevie Farrell will be more than confident that his team will bounce back at Keanie Park this weekend after a very encouraging start to the season overall.
