BIBBY WELCOMES PROGRESS ON CCTV FOR PAISLEY’S PARKS: Security measures could be rolled out in near future

14th Dec 2025

Neil Bibby MSP has welcomed news that CCTV could be rolled out across Paisley’s parks in the near future following a unanimous vote at Renfrewshire Council’s full council meeting on Thursday, 11 December 2025.

A motion lodged by Councillor Graeme Clark, Labour representative for Paisley Northeast and Ralston, calling for the council to review its CCTV policy with the aim of installing cameras in all of Renfrewshire’s main parks was passed unanimously.

Both Neil Bibby MSP and his colleague Councillor Graeme Clark have been calling for action on this issue for a number of months following incidents taking place at Barshaw Park and Brodie Park.

Their latest calls follow a recent incident in which a young woman was raped at Brodie Park in the early hours of the morning.

The matter will now be taken forward by Renfrewshire Council’s Cross Party Sounding Board.

Neil Bibby, MSP for West Scotland, said: “Councillor Clark spoke passionately at the full council meeting and I am proud that councillors of all parties came together to support his motion.  I have been critical of Council Leader Iain Nicolson on the issue of CCTV but I welcome his indication that a joint party sounding board will now be set up to decide on next steps.

“I will be following further developments on this issue closely, and I hope and anticipate that CCTV will finally be installed across our major parks in the near future.”

Commenting following the vote, Renfrewshire Councillor Graeme Clark said: “I am pleased that councillors have unanimously agreed to take forward the proposals in our motion to review CCTV in Paisley’s parks.  As councillors, it is incumbent on all of us to do everything we can to make people in our communities feel safe.

“I look forward to working with all parties to ensure we can give residents, particularly young women and girls, the confidence that our public spaces are safe for everyone.”
