Paisley live music gig guide this weekend

On Friday night, 9 February at The Bungalow, there will be no no safety nets, no laughing gnomes, no silly wigs… just the music of Bowie played hard and honestly by Spiders on Mars.

Formed in 2004 in Glasgow, Spiders On Mars is a six-piece band of musicians who are bonded by a love for the music of the 20th Century’s greatest musical icon. They play music from every era of David Bowie’s career.

From The Man Who Sold The World and Space Oddity through the Ziggy years and onto The Thin White Duke. From the blue-eyed soul of Young Americans to the New Wave defining Ashes To Ashes. From the anthemic Heroes to the disco-funk of Let’s Dance.

With over 40 classic hits and fan favourites to draw upon as well as special “full album” performances, Spiders on Mars are not a tribute band, Spiders On Mars are a rocking tribute to the music of David Bowie. Tickets on the door from 7.00pm.

Bobby Deans Big Band are back on Saturday 10 February afternoon for more Jazz, Swing and Big Band favourites. Free entry and doors are at 1.00pm.

In the aftermath of the Punk revolution, daring New Romantics embraced new sounds and technologies to change the face of music forever. The Bungalow have one of the best tribute shows of that era playing on Saturday night, 10 February.

Known for their incredible live performances, Electromantics are the only band to feature the incredible robotic dancing of Manochrome. Expect, Depeche Mode, Soft Cell, The Human League, Kraftwerk, OMD, Ultravox, Frankie goes to Hollywood, Duran Duran China Crisis, Tears for Fears, Gary Numan and much more.  Tickets on the door from 7.00pm.

Ground Zero returns with another line-up of brave souls just starting out in the comedy world. Tickets on the door on Sunday 11 February from 7.00pm. On Wednesday, 14 February, GKC Presents a live showcase with Subspace, Highway, Daydrunk and Static. Tickets on the door from 7.00pm.

Complete Madness are back at The Old Swan on Friday night, 9 February for another great night of Ska classics such as One Step Beyond, Baggy Trousers and House of Fun. Support is from Crawford Carlyle. You can get tickets at the venue or phone 041 562 0908. Money Penny are on at 4.00pm on Saturday 10 February and the Northern Soul Club starts at 4.00pm on Sunday 12 February. Crawford Carlyle will be singing from 4.00pm on Monday, while Lee James will be doing his double trouble on Tuesday and Thursday at 3.00pm. Duncan McLellan performs as usual on Wednesday 14 February at 4.00pm.

Rocknrollas welcome a band formed through a mutual love of 1980’s goth and alternative rock music on Saturday night, 10 February. Sanctum Santorium are a live 6-piece band that faithfully recreate classic hits by artists such as The Cult, Killing Joke, Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie & The Banshees, The Cure, Bauhaus and more. Smoke machines at the ready with the clothes and the attitude.

Visually and musically, they are startlingly accurate delivering a blistering live set from She Sells Sanctuary and Love like Blood through to Bela Lugosi’s Dead & This Corrosion. Dust down your leather jacket and paint your nails, and get ready to be transported to The Dark Side of the 80’s. Tickets on the door from 7.30pm.

St Mungo will be kicking off at 9.00pm at The Keg on Friday night, 9 February, and if you want to hear electric guitar riffs, a slapping bass and energetic drum fills, don’t miss The Brian Kelly Band on Saturday at The Keg from 9.00pm. The Keg Sessions continue Thursday at 9.00pm for new original acts.

The Cave have Gallus Monkey in from 7.00pm Saturday 10 February, and on Sunday 11 February it will be Rumours from 6.00pm.

Ruff Edge are at Kennedys on Sunday 11 February from 3.00pm and over at The Inn on the Corner live music kicks off at 4.30pm.

Open Mic/Stage Sessions next week are: The Abbey at 9pm on Monday; The Gantry at 9pm on Tuesday; The Bungalow on Tuesday 7pm and The Keg on Wednesday at 8.30pm.
